Actress, Philanthropist and mother of 6, Angelina Jolie is opening up some more about her failed marriage to ex-husband and movie star, Brad Pitt.
Jolie in a recent interview said since they had connected so well when they met in 2005 on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, she hoped that By the Sea a movie she had written, directed and starred in alongside Brad would help with their communication issues.
“We had met working together and we worked together well,” she told The Hollywood Reporter‘s podcast, Awards Chatter. “I wanted us to do some serious work together, I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate. In some ways it was, and in some ways we learned some things. But there was a heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it wasn’t because of the film.”
The movie By the Sea is a story about a couple married for 14 years but are now struggling to stay together due to communication, intimacy and fertility issues.
Talking about why she wrote the movie, Jolie said she is glad they had a chance to work on that project together because it helped them communicate something that needed to be communicated though it could not fix their marriage.
“It was something that we were dealing [with]… things happen for different reasons, and things — why did I write that exact piece? Why did we feel that way when we made it? I’m not sure,” she says. “A piece of art can be something that’s healing or something that’s difficult.”
“I’m glad we did that film because we did explore something together. Whatever it was, maybe it didn’t solve certain things, but we did communicate something that needed to be communicated to each other.”
Jolie and Pitt ended their 10 yearlong romance in September 2016 when Jolie filed for divorce.
