Victor Obano and Grace Edet have been arrested by the Lagos State Police department on suspicions of forcefully turning a young girl seeking a job into a commercial sex worker.
23-year-old Elizabeth, mother of two who previously resided in Akwa Ibom was allegedly handed over to Obano by her father to help get a job in Lagos. Rather than help with a legal job in the hotel, Obano reportedly took Elizabeth to Tisa hotel and made her collect monetary rewards for sexual favours granted.
Tired of her new life, Elizabeth contacted her sister who in turn alerted the police, hence the arrest of Obano and Edet.
Obano however denies the accusations claiming that the victim’s sister only alerted the police because he had seized her (Elizabeth) phones to prevent her from dating multiple men.
“The police arrested me because I seized her phones. They said I did not want her to contact her family members, but I collected her phone because I did not want her to have an affair with several men” said Obano.
Edet, accused of being Obano’s accomplice in the matter has a different story to tell. She explained how she has been working in the hotel for many years as a commercial sex worker and how Obano instructed her to teach Elizabeth just what to do to make some quick buck.
“I have worked in the hotel for some years. I am a commercial sex worker. When the manager came back from Akwa Ibom earlier in the year, he returned with the lady. He handed her over to me, saying I should teach her some tricks of the trade.
I did not know the arrangement between them. When I asked the lady why she was brought, she replied that she was asked to hustle at the hotel. So, I do not have any fault in the matter,” Edet said.
