Have you noticed how romantic movies have taken a back seat in Hollywood? Even leading ladies known for their stereotypical romantic comedy roles such as Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts and Kate Winslet have all moved over to either action, thriller or comedy. This is probably because it is becoming increasingly difficult to rewrite the same story over and over again. Not in Nollywood though.
The romantic genre is still Nollywood’s most viable genre seeing that it doesn’t require as much special effects as an action or a horror/thriller genre would need. So, it seems that our producers are finding more and more creative ways to tell the same old tale of boy meets girl. Which brings us to The Dinner.
The Dinner’s preview clip portrays it to be one of those movies that witch-hunt women as it’s sole premise is based on the “fact” that all women cheat – married or not.
While I find this way of reasoning archaic I do think it cuts for a great storyline as the characters appear to loose themselves trying to prove a theory.
With an A-list star cast including Richard Mofe Damijo, Ireti Doyle, Kehinde Bankole, Deyemi Okanlawon, this movie seems to have promise and may make for a great 90 minutes of good entertainment. The movie is set for release in November.
