Terry Mango, mother of the boy who modeled a controversial hoodie for Swedish clothing-retail line, H&M has spoken out for the first time about her son’s involvement and her response is quite shocking.
Calling it an unnecessary issue, Mango says her son has modeled several items for the multinational brand and did not see anything wrong with her son wearing a hoddie that called him “the coolest monkey in the jungle”.
What is even more controversial is the fact that a white boy who also modeled in the same shoot was given a hoodie describing him as a “Junior Tour Guide and a survival expert.
“Am the mum and this is one of hundreds of outfits of my son has modeled. Stop crying wolf all the time. Unnecessary issue here. Get over it,” Mango said in one of her posts.
Responding to Mango’s Facebook message, a user quipped that H&M should have swapped shirts given to both boys – this may have averted the huge boycott call the fashion giants are facing now.
Mango who said she was at the shoot and approved the outfit has since changed her Facebook page to private probably because of all the backlash she has been receiving since speaking in H&M’s defence.
So are people overreacting or is there something really sinister going on at H&M?
