If you love musicals, comedy and high school drama you probably were a fan of Glee – the show about teenage misfits who found their voices in the school’s glee club winning singing competitions, creating strong life bonds and standing up to bullies.
Well, after a very successful six seasons the show came to an end but it appears some of the cast alumni are not doing as well as two major characters that got their big breaks from Glee are now dead.
First was Cory Monteith who played Finn Hudson, the handsome quarterback struggling with his love for music and his need to be captain of the football team. From age 13, Monteith had struggled with drug abuse and in July 2013, he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room. He died of a drug overdose.
As if that was not tragedy enough for the Glee cast, Mark Salling who played the character Puck on Glee a few weeks back took his own life after pleading guilty to charges of child pornography.
He had been awaiting sentencing of about four to seven years when he was found dead of apparent suicide.
While Naya Rivera, the actress behind the character Santana Lopez didn’t die, she has had a few stints with the law, her latest being charged with misdemeanour domestic violence after she allegedly hit her husband, Ryan Dorsey while he was on a walk with their son.
With this dark cloud hovering over such a fun and upbeat production, it feels like a ray of sunlight to see that some of the stars are doing pretty well for themselves.
Melissa Benoist landed a leading role in Super Girl after her Glee years, Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones) who won the coveted Dancing With the Stars Mirrorball trophy, Heather Morris (Brittney Pierce) is happily married with two sons and Chris Colfer (Kurt Hummel) is now an author of five children books.
Hopefully Salling’s death, sad as it is marks an end to the Glee cast deaths. May is soul rest in peace.
