A successful military operation has been carried out which claimed the lives of two of Abubakar Shehu’s deputies – one of the leaders of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram.
The operation according to a statement released on Tuesday by Army spokesman, Sani Usman took place at Alafa in Borno state on Sallah day where Afdu Kawuri and Abubakar Banishek were killed during a show down with the Army.
“This is in addition to Ba’Abba Ibrahim and two other Boko Haram commanders that died after sustaining injuries during their last ambush at Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno,” he added.
Usman also said that in August five other Boko Haram leaders and men faithful to Shekau were killed by the Army in a bid to rid the country of the sect completely.
Shekau has however denied that any of his deputies were killed in a video published by the sect claiming that they rather had an enjoyable Sallah celebration in Sambisa forest.
To this Usman has challenged Shekau to show via video evidence all the men that the Army has claimed are dead. He asked Nigerians to dismiss Shekau’s video calling it a futile attempt to instil fear in the hearts of citizens.
“We wish to challenge the so-called terrorist leader to produce the five key commanders earlier killed or the video of those Ameers he claimed not dead and are still with him.
“It is also instructive to note that Shekau is scared and rattled by the 40-day ultimatum issued by the Chief of Army Staff to Operation LAFIYA DOLE to fish him out,” Mr. Usman, a brigadier general, said.
