Wherever there is fashion, you can be sure of extremities and the Tinsel 1,000th episode gala was no different. It had the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Flair Nigeria reviews the best and worst dressed celebrities at the event.
While Omoni Oboli has one of the most perfect bodies in the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) even after four kids, her sense of style is ever so often questionable. Is it her desire to appear decent at events or a sheer lack of style? Whatever it is, her outfit at thegala was all but dull, adding years to her age — years that her super fit body had helped to disguise. If she was making school rounds or off on a casual visit to a friend, her outfit would have fit to a T. But to an event of such magnitude, she looked a tad out of place with her sleeveless multicoloured blouse and an almost shapeless skirt.
Though Omoni could have won our Worst Dressed Celeb award for the evening, Ufoma Ejenobor attended the event in all her lilac glory and snatched the award right out of Omoni’s grip. Now, Ufoma as we all know, has a not-so-feminine physique, which is no crime if you understand your figure and know how best to clothe it. This is where Ufoma constantly defaults.
Appearing at the event in a cross-backed flowery lilac gown, she clearly could have done better in her choice of clothing but it is the fit that really took away from her gorgeous face, making her the worst dressed of the evening. And this is why: you know that “muffin top” you get when you desperately try to force yourself into a pair of jeans a size smaller, that very unflattering bulge that your tummy forms as you hold your breath and button your pants? Well, it is called a “muffin top” and when Ufoma turns around, you can see the extra fat at her back peeking through and forming a muffin top. This is totally unacceptable for everyday wear let alone for a prestigious event. It adds extra pounds to your figure, accentuating those parts you don’t want attention drawn to and generally giving you an untidy look. For this, Ufoma takes the cake!
Seyi Shay appeared in a black floor-length gown with a large hollow in the chest area, highlighted by a silver brooch. She looked totally laid-back as though she couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of searching for a dress so she just picked the first clothing her eyes caught in her closet. But when she appeared for her performance on stage, she adorned a glittering one-piece micro-mini jumpsuit that made her eyes pop as she mounted the stage. Little wonder she opted for simple for the red carpet, not wanting her utterly explosive stage suit to be overshadowed by her red carpet ensemble.
Boring, that’s the only word to describe Nse Ikpe’s outfit on the red carpet. Donning a lemon jacket atop black leather pants and a black blouse, there was absolutely nothing to her look. Even her famous tresses that she constantly experiments with were fastened in a simple up do. She posed somewhat uninterestedly for pictures and then strutted off for the event. They say a person’s mood determines his/her style. Well, she didn’t exude the glow and charm emblematic of the newlywed that she is. Was she having a bad day?
Toke Makinwa was spotted in a gorgeous mint green floor-length one-handed gown. Looking every bit a diva, she glowed while gliding down the red carpet and was on the verge of clinching our Best Dressed Celeb award until she turned around to reveal a “muffin top” situation at the top half of her back. Though this error was not immediately obvious at first glance, the dress, obviously too tight at the boobs region, created a ripple effect at her back where the bulge gathered.
Selecting the Best Dressed Celeb of the night was anything but easy, as most of the celebrities came in for the kill — the exact reason we could not pin one person to the prize and instead chose two, Osas Igodaro and Eku Edewor.
Studio 53’s diva, Eku Edewor looked effortlessly precious in a shimmery gold floor-length sleeveless gown. You couldn’t help but stare at the lean, tall TV presenter as she smiled and posed for the cameras. Looking every bit a British super model, her hairpiece sat nicely on her head to make her look even classier.
Osas Ighodaro, who co-hosted the event with BBA’s IK Osakioduwa, looked stunning in a floor-length wine open back dress. It was an incredibly fitted dress. Well covered in the front, a little peekaboo cut at the back created a fun look for the ex-beauty queen. Jettisoning the rave, long Brazilian weave, she opted for a short do, which amply accentuated her facial features and caused her to radiate charm, poise and pizzazz while going about her hosting duties. It is little wonder that the ex-beauty queen found her way to our best dressed celeb, what with her win as onetime Miss Black USA. Miss Ighodaro certainly showed off her style and her sexy body without vulgarity. For this, she earns our Best Dressed Celeb award. You go girl!
