The Beach Samaritans have announced Saturday 20thDecember as the date for its next beach cleanup. The volunteer driven exercise will take place at the Tarkwa Bay Beach in good time for the Christmas/ Boxing Day holidays.
Tagged “Let’s Cleanup & Greenup Tarkwa Bay Beach”, the campaign is part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Children and the Environment (CATE), foremost Nigerian NGO which focuses on creating environmental health awareness and promoting eco-tourism amongst young people, in partnership with Wakaabout Media, publishers and promoters of culture and tourism in Nigeria.
The long term plan of the bi-monthly beach visitations is to cleanup Nigeria, one beach at a time and to educate participants on the importance of preserving an environment that is both healthy and sustainable for humanity and wildlife alike.
Last October, supported by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and Access Bank, the Beach Samaritans led at least 120 volunteers to clean the Okun Alfa Beach in Lekki.
For the December cleanup, volunteers are to arrive at these approved meeting points: Ikeja (8am at Forte Oil Petrol Station, Oba Akran Avenue); Surulere (9am at Mr. Bigg’s, Masha Roundabout/Ogunlana Drive); and Lekki (10 am at 1st Roundabout).
