Style and couture were the standout features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Launch held at the weekend at the prestigious Oriental Hotel in Lagos. Kicking off with a fashion show specially organised by Samsung to celebrate young designers, the event highlighted the distinctive qualities of the phone while the crème de la crème of the entertainment industry laughed for several hours in the company of compere Seyi Law.
From Banky W’s erotic dance moves to Seyi Law’s jabs on Wizkid and his sex life, the show was filled with fun and excitement and, of course, tremendous moments we couldn’t help but notice. Here are five unforgettable moments we think will make you swoon.
Maureen Aurora Daniels, Clemas Couture, Unseen Designs, Tracy Zika and Karelle exhibited their wears; but it was Tracy Zika and Karelle’s designs that stood head and shoulders above the rest. With their simple yet classy manoeuvres of Ankara fabric with a nice blend of colour and shapes, these ladies blew the crowd away and got people cheering at their work, as they interlaced S4 themes into their showcase.
Seyi Law and Kate Henshaw: What a match?
Who knew these two would work well together as co-hosts for a fashion show? They complimented each others’ jokes and generally livened up the atmosphere with their seemingly unrehearsed jabs at each other. Maybe it was Kate’s tight-fitting, blue mini dress that sealed the focus of the crowd on her or it was Seyi Law’s charm and wit that got people’s rapt attention. Whatever it was, the two seemed like a match made in comedy heaven, as they so effortlessly worked the crowd with ease and poise.
Banky W and his masculine sex calls
If you have ever seen Mr. Capableperform his hit song Yes/No from his newest album RnBW, then you are no stranger to the way he rolls and then thrusts his waist out in what has got to be the most erotic dance move of all time. While this performance may do less than nothing to the men in the crowd, the ladies yelled, making catcalls at the five men dancing to the love song on stage. Though Banky W has probably performed this song the exact same way on countless occasions, it never grows tired, as there is something oddly sexy about nicely suited men romancing and almost making love to microphone stands.
Experience GS4 the Banky style
So Banky W was invited on stage by Business Head, Hand Held Products, Mr. Emmanouil Revmatas to physically demonstrate the peculiarities of the phone and all through his rather energetic demo, constant gasps of ‘ohhs’ and ‘ahhs’ vibrated through the hall, as Banky highlighted the Drama Shot feature of the phone.
Breaking into some Jet Li-type moves, Banky showed the already mesmerised crowd how movement while taking a shot does nothing to blur a picture with the S4. The brand ambassador also showed off the Air Gesture and Sound and Shot features of the phone where you can easily answer a call without touching your phone and can record up to nine seconds of sound while taking a picture.
Banky and Wizkid reunite on the Samsung Stage
Now it’s been rumoured that Banky W, owner of Empire Mates Entertainment has fallen out with his biggest star, Wizkid. Just Friday, Wizkid released the first official photo for his StarBoy label, leaving music fans more confused about whether he would still work with Banky.
Well, it was a pleasure to see Wizkid sneak into the hall midway into the show and take a sit right next to Banky. While Banky was on stage, he gave a shout out to Wizkid and invited him on stage to do a couple of his songs, making sure to remind the crowd that Wizkid was not paid to perform and was doing so as a favour to him. Whether or not the Starboy crooner has deserted his initial record label is yet to be ascertained but one thing is sure, Banky W and Wizkid make good music together as they lit up the stage performingRoll It, and left the fans craving for more.
The event set up to launch the GS4 into the Nigerian market saw popular dance company,Dance na the main thingperform rather impressively to a medley of fan favorites, which came to a dramatic end with the dancers pointing to the stage, just then the curtains began to part and four very young boys were elevated on stage holding Samsung boxes.
With all the razzmatazz surrounding the launch, guests were too preoccupied discussing the awesome features of the phone that it was easy to overlook the unveiling itself and move on to more important matters: buying the phone. Selling at a N108, 000, the phone is now available in stores; and consumers in select African countries can begin to enjoy the two-year Accidental Damage Warranty, another first from Samsung.
